Vinnitsa- the regional
centre of the independet Ukraine- is one of the most ancient Ukraine town which is sometimes called the pearl of Podillya. More than 600
years it stands on the picturesque banks of the Southern Buh river. The history of Vinnitsa stands in close relation with the history of the Right-bank Ukraine and the historical development of the Ukrainian people. During a long period of its existence Vinnitsa and its citizens saw a lot of events. Great historical events influenced its forming. Each age constructs its own style and works of architecture, which reflect the ideas and peculiarities of that period. In XVII- XVIII centuries the town inherited the historical complex "Mury",connecred with the domination of Rich Pospolitia over the Right-bank Ukraine. The complex "Mury", which includes the monastic buildings of the monasteries, beautify the central part of the town even nowadays. The construction of the town on the line of two centuries- the XIX-th and the XX-th-makes the disposition and the foundation of the town`s central part. The general constructing leaderschip fulfilled the town architect G.Artinov. There were the tram lines, regulated a lot of streets, built the Municipal Duma, regional court, railway station, theatre, libraries, hotels, high schools, real school, many mansions and profitable dwellings. The architecture begins to gain such new features and concepts as benefit, rationalism, nessesity and beauty. In the 30-th of the last century, when Vinnitsya becomes a regional boundary town, having united the former Podilska, Khersonska, Kyivska and Volynska provinces, the intensive construction had been taking place. During the first Stalinsky five-year plans the plants and clubs, dwellings, shools, a new building of electric power station, a railway station, the building of Soviet Army, cinemas, administrative houses were constructed. The post-war period was the time of reconstructions. From 1946 till 1950 a lot of dwellings and other buildings were constructed and reconstructed. On the town ruine a new station, 3-5-storied buildings in the central part, schools, administrative buildings, hotel "Ukraine" and many other structures were built. There are museums well-known all over the Ukraine: Literary-Memorial museum by M.Kotsubinsky, regional Museum of local lore and Art gallery in the "Mury", the National estate-museum of M.Pirogov. M.Sadovsky Drama Theatre, the Pappet Show and Philharmonic theatre functionate in the town too. The monumental aculptural compositions in commemoration of the great people of Ukraine and the monuments in honour of the historical events can be seen in the town parks and squares. Recently the tolerant attitude to the historical buildings and the revival of the national traditions becomes more charactaristics for the modern construction. More and more new buildings with the modern technologies decorate Vinnitsa- the pearl of Podillya. You are welcome to make a tour round the town and to feel the beauty of nature, the Southern Buh river and to walk along the silent town streets.
